TKTS® DISCOUNT BOOTHS - CHEAP TICKETS FOR BROADWAY SHOWS AND OFF-BROADWAY SHOWSTKTS®, a program run by the not-for-profit Theatre Development Fund, is a series of three discount ticket booths throughout New York City. Started in 1973, the program was designed to benefit last-minute ticket buyers and theaters alike. It has since sold over 51 million discounted Broadway tickets and Off-Broadway tickets to NYC residents and visitors.
Tickets to Broadway plays, Broadway musicals, Off-Broadway plays, and Off-Broadway musicals are sold at discounts ranging from 20% to 50% off of full-price tickets. TKTS® just charges a small $4.00 service charge per ticket to support other services and programs of the Theatre Development Fund. The booths accept credit cards, cash, travelers checks, and TKTS® gift certificates.
Due to the last-minute nature of its ticket sales, TKTS® ticket availability varies daily. During holidays and warmer months, lines can be very long. Electronic signs display up-to-date ticket availability at each booth. (If you're looking for tickets to a non-musical event at the TKTS booth in the theater district, be sure to ask for the "plays" line - it's much shorter than the usual line.)
Booth locations:
1. The Times Square TKTS® Booth (at Broadway and 47th Street)
2. The South Street Seaport TKTS® Booth (at Front Street and John Street)
3. The Downtown Brooklyn TKTS® Booth (at 1 MetroTech Center)
The Times Square Booth sells day-of discount tickets only. The South Street Seaport Booth and Downtown Brooklyn Booths sell matinee tickets the day before the performance, and evening tickets the day of the performance. In addition, the Downtown Brooklyn Booth sells tickets to performing arts events in Brooklyn.
Released on July 23, 2010, the AT THE BOOTH™ application for iPhone, Blackberry, and Android lists all Broadway shows and Off-Broadway shows available at the TKTS® booth every day and at what price, and even includes a feature allowing you to check the length of the TKTS® line throughout the day. In addition to this, it serves as a directory with info on every Broadway and Off-Broadway show. This includes show reviews, cast photos, videos, synopses, performance schedules, running times, cast lists, recent headlines, opening and closing dates, full-price and group-price ticket information, and a full directory of Broadway and Off-Broadway theaters – including maps to help you get there.
